Brilliant results this weekend for our Ginetta Junior racing drivers, Ryan and Jonathan Hadfield!
Last weekend was the turn of the third round of the Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge at the beautiful Oulton Park Race Circuit. Both brothers enjoy this circuit and had a positive outlook for the action packed day of racing ahead.
In qualifying Ryan and Jonathan were positive after their Friday practice and hoped to a get some strong qualifying results, ready for the day of racing. From the start Jonathan managed to get a better position within the pack, which allowed him to put in stronger lap times than Ryan. In the end Jonathan managed to qualify a strong 2nd, and after never really getting a clear lap Ryan ended up 6th, with a lot of work to do in the first race. Jonathan was extremely happy with his qualifying and hoped it would put him in good stead to challenge the championship leader. Ryan was disappointed with his result, however he was extremely motivated to move up the grid in the first race of the day.
Just a few hours after qualifying, saw the first race of the day take place in the beautiful sunshine of Oulton Park. The Hadfield brothers sat a fair way apart on the grid and but they both managed to get the cars off the line strongly, meaning Jonathan was running 2nd and Ryan was running 3rd, after starting 6th on the grid. As the race progressed Jonathan was sitting comfortably in 2nd, however Ryan was in a battle with another driver for 3rd position. Jonathan maintained his 2nd position to the checkered flag, finishing on the podium and after a hard fought battle with Chapman, Ryan had to settle with 4th position.
Race 2 came later in the afternoon, which saw Jonathan starting in a competitive 2nd on the grid and Ryan sitting just behind his younger brother in 4th. The race got off to a good start for the two brothers, Ryan managed to squeeze past his brother into 2nd position and Jonathan was just behind in 3rd. After a huge incident with a number of drivers further down the grid the safety car was deployed on the first lap. The wreckage was the bad that it meant the race had to be finished under the safety car, resulting in Ryan and Jonathan finishing the race in 2nd and 3rd.
Race 3 was late on Saturday afternoon and it was the reverse grid race. This reverse grid meant that Jonathan started in 7th just ahead of his older brother Ryan, who started this race 8th on the grid. Ryan had another amazing start, getting into 3rd position off the line, with Jonathan not too far behind. As the race progressed, Ryan car issues resulting in his brother and the championship leader getting past. After some strong battling with Jonathan and Chadwick, the race ended with Jonathan in 2nd position and Ryan nursing the car home in a respectable 4th.
Oulton Park Race Circuit showed that once again Ryan and Jonathan had the pace to be fighting for the podiums. The weekend was an extremely strong one for Jonathan with three solid finishes, Ryan was also happy with his results, however it was very much a weekend of what could have been. Overall though, both drivers showed how strong they were and were both always in the mix of things. Both Ryan and Jonathan can’t thank their sponsors enough for their continued support.
Onwards and upwards to Silverstone Race Circuit on the 11th-12th June 2016, where hopefully both brothers will be back fighting for the podiums and vital championship points!
